2025 ai trends + how to build your first coding project guide

Welcome to the second issue of Code & Capital! We bring you moves in the stock market, the latest on machine learning and career opportunities in finance and engineering!

This Week in the Stock Market

This week, the stock market had its ups and downs, with major vibes around inflation news and global drama. Everyone’s waiting to see if November’s inflation stats will lead to the Fed cutting interest rates. Over in tech, Nvidia’s stock dipped after China launched an antitrust probe against its Mellanox deal. Meanwhile, the Middle East shook things up when Syria’s Assad regime fell, spiking energy prices. Crude oil shot up by 1.5%, and it’s clear global events are flexing on the markets right now.

On the flip side, some brands popped off. Hershey’s saw its stock skyrocket 11% after rumors that Mondelez might scoop them up—imagine Cadbury and Hershey under one roof. Reddit hit record highs too, proving it’s still the cool kid post-IPO with strong growth and ad potential. Not all companies thrived, though—Comcast took a 9% nosedive, citing broadband subscriber losses. Whether you're an investing newbie or just keeping tabs, this week showed how hype and headlines can shake things up.

  1. AI Companies Being Used Side by Side

    • Techies have fully embraced ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot day to day, but I feel like more and more people will be using it as a companion for everyday tasks more often, further seeing the value it brings. Right now Microsoft’s Copilot Pro is priced at $20/user/month; once more businesses start to see the value it brings they will start to invest in it for their workforce further!

  2. More Control of AI

    • I feel 2024 was a year of experimentation with AI, for the industry and for individuals. A new shiny object we are learning more and more about everyday. Understanding how the workforce interacts with it will allow us to have greater control over what works and what doesn’t and how to further customize it’s use cases in industry.

  3. AI in Healthcare and exposing scientific breakthroughs

    • This field has already felt some of the preliminary advances that AI can have on it. Understanding the measurable impact it creates by solving some of the world’s most complex problems that researchers have previously needed to spend months testing and validating.
